The footage shows clothes hanging in a backyard to dry—a common practice in many parts of the world. An Indian-origin man shared the clip with a shocked emoji and clarified that the scene was from an American home, cautioning viewers not to mistake it for India.

Instagram user Mohammad Anas, whose bio says he helps students “move, settle and succeed in the USA,” shared the video. The video opens with a text insert that reads, “Not India, this is USA” with a shocked emoji.

The video, set to the background of Kendrick Lamar’s "Not Like Us," shows a backyard washline with clothes hanging on it.

What did social media say?

People were unhappy with the video and didn’t hold back while expressing their anger. Many questioned why the comparison with India and if hanging clothes in the backyard is “wrong”.

An individual wrote, “Do Americans not dry their clothes?” Another added, “Sorry, is it illegal to dry your clothes or something?” A third posted, “I am very confused. Are we not supposed to do this in the US?” A fourth commented, “New Zealand here. And what? Using sun and air is the normal way to dry clothes.”

According to Instagram, Anas is associated with Amber, a real estate site for international students to book accommodations in countries like the USA, the UK, Australia, Ireland, Canada, Germany, and Spain. He often shares videos about how people can book accommodations and what to expect as an international student.
