Rumour had it that

Dance India Dance

, the Zee TV reality show, was expected to return in the last leg of the year with choreographer-mentors Remo D’Souza, Terence Lewis and Geeta Kapoor. However, Ashish Golwalkar, head of programming, non-fiction shows, Zee TV, says that

Dance India Dance 3

will only return sometime next year.

“The property we’re launching in December is not

Dance India Dance

but a manifestation of the show in another form. It’s

Dance India Dance Doubles

, which will feature duos instead of individual participants. It could be two boys, two girls or a mixed partnership,” he informs.

The auditions for the show will be conducted across multiple cities and will kick off next week. Golwalkar points out that duos are an important aspect of dance and the channel wanted to have a show that would feature them. “There are several forms of western dance such as the cha cha, jive and salsa which can’t be performed by one person. So we thought that extending the show into a doubles format may work,” he says.

Mithun Chakraborthy

Buzz has it that Remo D’Souza and Terence Lewis have already given their nod to rival channels for dance reality shows. “I know that Remo has been offered

Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa 4

. But I don’t know if he has given it the green signal. He is expected back in town towards the end of this week. Only then will we be clear about his presence on our show. Terence’s show

Nachle Ve

is more about imparting dance lessons than a competition. And it ends before we launch our show in December after

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar

wraps up,” says Golwalkar, adding that in case D’Souza drops out, the channel is ready to experiment with other people such as Sandip Soparrkar.

And will grand-master Mithun Chakraborthy judge

Dance India Dance Doubles

? “Of course. He has been part of the format from its Zee Bangla days. He’s still doing the ongoing season of the show on Zee Bangla with kids,” says Golwalkar. “Dada couldn’t be on

DID Li’l Masters

regularly because of his film commitments. This time, hopefully, he will be around for the full season.”
