After committing to a put pilot for a Murder She Wrote reboot last fall, NBC has ultimately decided not to move forward with the project for the time being. The network had second thoughts about the approach to revamping the original series, in which Angela Lansbury starred as a retired English teacher turned murder mystery sleuth from 1984 to 1996.
While passing on the project for now, NBC is not throwing in the towel just yet. Deadline.com reports that the network's creative executives are examining alternative approaches to modernizing the series without betraying the spirit of the beloved original.
The initial reboot project placed Octavia Spencer in the role of the modern-day Jessica Fletcher. The character was re-imagined as a hospital administrator and mystery novel author who offers her assistance to the local police in criminal cases.
