Nach Baliye winner Daljeet Kaur opens up about domestic abuse
When they won Nach Baliye in 2008, their fans would not have thought in their wildest dreams that Daljeet Kaur and Shaleen Bhanot will not share a forever together. But that’s what happened last year when the TV actress ended her marriage alleging domestic abuse at the hands of her husband.
But only a year later, Daljeet seems to have turned her life around. She has lost about 25 kgs and is totally focussed on keeping fit.
She also recently spoke to The Times of India and revealed how she regretted not speaking about the abuse earlier. “I know I was speaking truth, but I still took a lot of time expressing the pain. It was the most difficult phase of my life. I feel every experience good or bad teaches you something. I have learnt a lot from my bad experiences. However, I am happy that I met some really good people during the phase. They not only helped me, but also guided me. I am thankful to them, they never let me be alone,” she said.
When asked if she ever considered reconciling with Shaleen, she dismissed the possibility altogether. “All that is not going to happen. I am in a very peaceful space. If not happy or content. No doubt it was a tough phase. I am no more revengeful or have any angst. I am done with that phase. I don’t hold any regrets, grudge or ego. If Shaleen wants to co-exist, I am fine with it. My only priority is my son and his happiness,” she said.
On her drastic weight-loss, she told Spotboye, “I am watching my food. No roti and rice since the past 1 year. This has been accompanied by a strict exercise regime. I alternate between running and cardio. Everyone is telling me that I never looked so young ever. Everybody who hasn’t met me since some time is surprised at my new avatar. I was quite chubby and broad. Wait for a month or two and you’ll see me fitter than even now.”
