After a break of over a year, Kritika Kamra will return to TV with the celebrity dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7 (JDJ). The actor, who has been part of shows like Kuch Toh Log Kahenge and Kitni Mohabbat Hai, says that she is participating in the show for the exposure it will give her, and that she will soon return to acting in serials.

You have been away from TV for a year. What kept you busy?
I’d gone to Europe for a long holiday and I did a theatre workshop once I returned. I took it easy during my break with workouts and spending time with family and friends.

Is it true that the Ekta Kapoor film you were working on is shelved?
I don’t know the exact status; I think it’s delayed. I guess even they (the makers) don’t know (about the status) clearly right now. I was looking forward to it and preparing for it too. If it is supposed to happen, it will.

Do you feel reality shows are a ticket to fame?
Reality shows give a lot of exposure as they are popular formats. I have watched many, so it’s great to be on one. I’ve already got good response after the promos went on air. Their reach is the main reason (why actors want to be on them). I’m happy to be on this show.

Do you think a reality show is also a good medium to show your real self? For example, Drashti Dhami broke her bahu image and surprised many with her sexy avatar.
It won’t be an image breaker of sorts for me, because I never played a typical bahu. Moreover, although I’ve never had inhibitions about what to wear, on TV, one has to stick to characters.

After years of acting on television, many actresses take up hosting reality shows or do roles in films. Do you have such plans?
I came here to act and that’s what gives me maximum satisfaction. Everything else is on the periphery. But I did television shows non-stop for five-six years, and doing a daily soap gets monotonous after a while. I wanted to try out other things as well. I will surely act again on television. There’s no doubt there.

A lot has been said about your love life of late. Are you dating anyone currently?
I am not single. But I don’t want to say anymore. It’s too soon.

Quick five
A question you have been asked numerous times?
Am I single? I get that a lot.
A question you never want to answer?
Am I single? It gets to you when people keep asking that. If I have something to say, I will.
A current TV show you have heard a lot about?
Comedy Nights With Kapil is quite funny.
An actor you feel is popular?
Drashti Dhami is quite popular. People have been commenting about her hosting JDJ and the response has been good. We know each other, but not very well.

A habit you want to get rid of?
Talking more than I should.
