The on-again, off-again couple, played by Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik, will have sex for the first time in an episode taped Tuesday and set to air on December 17 on CBS.

In a statement, executive producer Steve Molaro said that after five years of dating, the time was right for Sheldon and Amy to consummate their relationship. The sitcom’s producers are eager for viewers to see the couple’s journey in subsequent episodes, he said.

The two made their fans believe that even nerds have a shot at having a great relationship. (CBS)

Will it be as second-hand embarrassing as it sounds or will the two give us the biggest relationship goals again? We will have to wait until December to find out.
