Union Home Minister Amit Shah on February 8 announced that India is scrapping the Free Movement Regime (FMR) with Myanmar amid violent revolt against the military government in the neighbouring nation. “The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has decided that the Free Movement Regime (FMR) between India and Myanmar be scrapped to ensure the internal security of the country and to maintain the demographic structure of India’s North Eastern States bordering Myanmar,” Amit Shah said on X, formerly Twitter. India has also advised its citizens to leave the restive Rakhine state in Myanmar immediately where militants captured a border port town with India recently.
