Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva celebrated his re-election before thousands of supporters on São Paulo’s Paulista Avenue, delivering his victory speech from a truck converted into a stage. With all polling stations counted, Lula secured 51.79% of valid votes, defeating Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, who received 48.21%, according to Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court. In his address, Lula thanked young people, women, educators and older voters, saying the victory belonged to the electorate. He also praised Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin as his governing partner. Lula’s historic comeback marks another major chapter in Brazil’s political history.
