Odisha Youth, Lachhman Dundi has claimed to produce electricity using the silicon present in the devalued 500 or 1000 rupee notes. Lachhman is a student in Khariar College in Nuapada district and both his parents are daily wagers. The setup he has invented reportedly uses the silicon present in the notes and produces electricity with the help of a transformer connected to the notes. “On exposing these notes to sunlight or any other form of light, the silicon produces electricity...” he said in an interview to Deccan Chronicle. The amount of electricity being produced is able to light up an LED bulb or power a table fan. Lachhman's invention has caught the attention of the state government & PMO but remains unverified.
