Covid update: Mumbai orders 72,000 injections; new Unlock 5 rules; UK spike

From easing of more restrictions from October 1 under Unlock Phase 5, to Mumbai's civic body ordering over 70,000 injections of remdesivir drug - here are the top news updates on the Covid-19 pandemic. In the new stage of Unlock, state governments have been given to flexibility to decide whether schools are to be reopened from October 15. However, attendance can't be mandatory with students having the option of attending online classes. A decision regarding colleges and higher education institutes will be taken later, but PhD and science and technology post-graduate students can be allowed access to laboratories etc. Movie theatres and multiplexes are also set to reopen with 50% capacity from October 15. Conditional lifting of the 100-member limit for social, academic, cultural, political, and other events was also announced. These relaxations are only allowed in non-containment zones. Meanwhile, Oxford university said that it is looking at testing whether popular prescription drug adalimumab can be used to treat Covid patients. Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine candidate is also currently under trial. In international news, the United Kingdom saw its worst 1-day spike in infections on September 29, while the United States of America is seeing increasing infections among children, as per reports.
