Bharat Biotech's Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin gets DCGI's nod for phase III clinical trials. Bharat Biotech is currently conducting phase II human trials of Covaxin. The recommendation by DCGI was given after assessing data from phase I & phase II clinical trials. Also, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that Bihar will get free vaccine once the mass production of approved Covid-19 vaccine begins. Similar statements were made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and AAP's Arvind Kejriwal questioned the government over the “free vaccine promise”. Meanwhile, Oxford University's AstraZeneca trials will continue in Brazil after a volunteer died on Wednesday. AstraZeneca said there are “no concerns about continuation of the ongoing study”.
