Hong Kong polls: EU warns as the face of China's security law elected new leader

John Lee, a Beijing loyalist, elected to be Hong Kong’s next chief executive. About 1,500 members of a largely pro-Beijing panel voted to pick the new leader; Lee only needed a simple majority. At a press meet, Lee asserted the election was 'run in accordance with the laws of Hong Kong'. John Lee, who became the face of the nat'l security law and oversaw raids & arrests, is set to replace Carrie Lam.
