India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met China’s Executive Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu on Feb 10 for the India‑China Strategic Dialogue, where both sides reviewed progress in stabilising ties and stressed that peace and tranquillity along the border remain essential for overall relations. In the MEA readout, China said it “understands and respects India’s aspirations for UNSC membership,” while the dialogue also covered trade issues, the resumption/expansion of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, an updated Air Services Agreement, visa facilitation and people‑to‑people contacts, and cooperation under India’s BRICS chairship. On Feb 12, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that Ma conveyed this “understands and respects” line on UNSC aspirations when asked to elaborate.
