Gurpurab: Celebrating birth of founder of Sikhism | Festivals of India

Devotees celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak on November 12. Guru Nanak Jayanti commemorates birth of 1st Sikh Guru. It's celebrated on Kartik Purnima, 15th lunar day in Kartik month. Festivities include 48-hr non-stop recitation of Guru Granth Sahib. The highlight this year has been opening of Kartarpur corridor. It connects Dera Baba Nanak in India to Gurudwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan. Gurudwara Darbar Sahib is where Nanak breathed his last.
