Senior Karnataka Congress leaders stepped down from key posts after the party's defeat in the recent bypolls. Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah resigned as Congress Legislature Party leader and Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly. Dinesh Gundu Rao stepped down as chief of the Indian National Congress' Karnataka unit. Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party won 12 out of 15 seats where bypolls were held, thus cementing BS Yediyurappa's position as Chief Minister.
