Shashi Tharoor welcomes SC decision to decriminalise homosexuality

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor welcomed Supreme Court's decision to decriminalise homosexuality on Thursday. “I'm pleased to welcome SC's decision to decriminalise consensual acts of adults in private. Gay sex among consenting adults is not an offence, the Supreme Court ordered on Thursday, reading down a British-era section 377 of the penal code that penalises people for their sexual orientation. Delivering separate but concurring judgments, a five-judge bench of the apex court said it is the constitutional and not social morality which will prevail. There were scenes of celebration outside the court immediately after the announcement of the order.
