The Indian Army, already deployed in combating militancy in restive Kashmir as well as the northeast, has asked the government of India to finalise the rules of engagement, as it gets ready to open a new training facility in the Maoist-hit Chhattisgarh. Speaking on the 62nd Army Day in New Delhi on Friday General V. K. Singh, the Chief of Army Staff, said he has asked the central government to finalise the rules of engagement with Maoists to determine the extent its personnel are protected by law.
