Troops are still patrolling in certain localities of Kolkata, but the curfew has been lifted. The curfew was imposed after a violent protest by the Islamic fundamentalist factions affiliated to All India Minority Forum, demanding expulsion of controversial Bangladeshi feminist writer Taslima Nasreen from West Bengal.
