Oct 2 declared International Day of Non-violence

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on Friday to observe International Day of Non-Violence each year on October 2, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. The resolution was introduced by Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma, who said the resolution would highlight Gandhi's message of non-violence. Gandhi led a campaign of civil disobedience seeking Indian independence from Britain.
