Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that his government is considering a proposal to revoke the Armed Forces Special Powers Act or AFSPA in the state reeling under a two decade long rebellion. The AFSPA gives sweeping powers to the security forces to carry out operations in disturbed areas. It was promulgated in Jammu and Kashmir in July 1990. Tens of thousands of people have been killed in the region since insurgency broke out in 1989.
