Despite the large presence of police and paramilitary forces, Kandhmal district of Orissa is still in the grip of communal tension. Fourteen churches have been burnt and three Hindu temples destroyed in the violence that began on December 24, with reports of a local Hindu leader being injured by a Christian group. However, officials claim that the situation is under control.
