Congress’s Varanasi candidate against PM Narendra Modi is not Priyanka Gandhi but Ajay Rai. The last few weeks saw growing speculation that the Congress General Secretary in charge of UP east may decide to contest against PM Modi from Varanasi. But Congress put an end to the speculation Thursday by fielding Ajay Rai – who was also the Congress candidate in 2014. Hindustan Times’ political editor Vinod Sharma believes that the decision was expected as “the chances of Priyanka Gandhi winning against Modi were remote”. He adds that this way Priyanka will be able to focus her energies into the primary responsibility of leading the party’s campaign in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh. Watch the full video for more.
