'Donbass...': How Putin is reframing Ukraine War goals in face of Kyiv Challenge

Russia has decided to shift its strategy in Ukraine. On Friday, a senior Russian military official said the real objective was to ‘liberate’ the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine, where Russian-backed separatists have been fighting the Ukrainian army for the past eight years. Military experts say that by changing its war goals in Ukraine Russia intends to make it easier for President Vladimir Putin to claim a face-saving victory.
