India fact-checks UN Commissioner on J&K | ‘Inaccurate Human Rights Portrayal’

India has hit back at the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for his comments on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Giving an oral update at the 52nd session of United Nations Human Rights Council, Volker Turk said that he had the opportunity to discuss the worrying human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan and India in the recent months. Ambassador Indramani Pandey then fact-checked the UN Commissioner. He said, "We regret the High Commissioner's unwarranted and factually inaccurate portrayal of the human rights situation in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Let me reiterate that the matters pertaining to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are an internal affair of India and we do not see any role for the OHCHR in it."
