US lawmakers introduce bill to make Diwali a federal holiday | Watch

The United States of America plans to make Diwali a nationally recognised federal holiday. Three Democratic lawmakers announced introducing a bill in the US Congress on Wednesday. The lawmakers include Carolyn B Maloney, Raja Krishnamoorthi & Gregory Meeks. Once approved, the holiday would be observed in federal institutions & will be called Deepavali Day Act. On Thursday, U.S. President Joe Biden took to Twitter & wished everyone on Diwali. Vice-President Kamala Harris shared a video message & greeted people on the occasion. This was Biden & Kamala's first Diwali as the president & vice-president of the United States. Indian Americans are the second-largest immigrant group in the United States of America. They constitute a population of about 4 million - 1.2% of the American population.
