He also said that he would back the demand for the prestigious Bharat Ratna, the nation's highest civilian award be conferred on the outstanding sportsman. Meanwhile the civic body of Thane, on the outskirts of Mumbai, hailed Sachin's birthday by naming a new stadium after star batsman. Thane's Mayor said the ground would be used for outdoor games like cricket and football and termed the setting up of this sports arena as a major landmark in the city's history.
