PV Sindhu creates history: 1st Indian shuttler to win BWF World Championship
Shuttler Pusarla Venkata Sindhu created history on Sunday by becoming the first Indian to win the BWF World Championship. She comprehensively defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara to clinch gold at the tournament. Sindhu defeated her opponent 21-7, 21-7 in just 36 minutes. This was a moment of redemption for the Indian athlete, who had lost to Okuhara when they had last met for a World Championship final in 2017. Congratulations poured in from many quarters, including the President of India Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice-President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu.
