Russia’s President Vladimir Putin visits Iran in his first foreign visit since the war in Ukraine began. Putin is expected to meet his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi in Tehran. The meeting will include Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and will take place in the trilateral “Astana format” aimed at resolving differences in Syria, as per news agency Al Jazeera. But clearly there is much more at stake as war rages in Ukraine. Putin's visit to Iran comes just three days after US President Joe Biden finished his Saudi Arabia visit.
