Not vaccinated? Can't leave home: Protest over Austria's new Covid lockdown rules

Austria declared a lockdown for people not vaccinated against Covid amid a surge in cases. The announcement - a first in the EU - was made by Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg. Thousands took to streets to protest against the lockdown for the unvaccinated in Austria. Protesters gathered outside the chancellory in a noisy protest and waved banners. Previously, the unvaccinated were already banned from restaurants, hotels, and cultural venues. About 65% of Austria's almost nine million people are vaccinated, below the EU average of 67%. So far, about 11,700 people infected with the coronavirus have died in Austria. Other European Govts are also eyeing curbs with the Netherlands opting for partial lockdown.
