Venezuela court taps VP Rodríguez as acting president after Maduro detained

Venezuela’s Supreme Court ordered Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to assume the role of acting president on Saturday after President Nicolás Maduro was detained in a U.S. military operation. The Constitutional Chamber said the move is intended to ensure administrative continuity, the functioning of government, and the defense of national sovereignty. The court added it will further deliberate to determine the legal framework governing the president’s forced absence.
