Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto published her manifesto for January elections on November 30, promising jobs for the poor if victorious. But at a news conference in Islamabad, Bhutto refused to rule out the possibility of an election boycott. A party spokesman also said that Nawaz Sharif, who might be barred from running because of criminal convictions, will meet Bhutto to try to persuade her to boycott.
