Five cheetah cubs whose mother died after birth at the Cincinnati Zoo are finding warmth with a companion dog who is serving as their nanny in the zoo nursery. The cubs' mother, who delivered the cubs via Caesarian section at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden on March 8, died after failing to recover from the surgery, zoo officials said.To help recreate the cozy environment their mother would have provided, Blakely, a five-year-old male Australian shepherd, has stepped in to provide a warm furry body the cubs can snuggle with and climb upon for exercise.Zoo workers say they are bottle-feeding the cubs every three hours, and they hope Blakely can teach them important behavioral skills. This is not Blakely's first assignment at the zoo.
