Footage shows the snake-catcher narrowly escaping the deadly grip of a nine-foot-long python in Limpopo Province in South Africa.

The python had slithered around the man’s legs in order to trap him.

The 1:36 minute long video was published by a user named ‘VIRALARMY’ on YouTube on Friday, and shows the python gradually tightening its grip on the snake-catcher who had caught the serpent by the neck. The man eventually loses balance, leading to another person coming to his rescue.

According to the user, the incident occurred when the snake catcher was removing the python from the property.

Pythons are the world’s largest snakes and can grow as long as 30 feet. The creature does not attack humans unless provoked or attacked. They kill their prey by squeezing until the prey stops breathing.
