Pope Francis on Sunday once again condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine, calling the bombing of children's' hospitals and civilian targets a barbaric act, news agencies reported. "In the name of God... stop this massacre," the Pope said after the weekly Angelus prayers.
The Pope's remarks come amid heightened fighting between the Russian and Ukrainian forces for the 18th straight day. "Ukrainian cities risked “being reduced to cemeteries,” the Pope added.
This is the second such appeal by the Pope calling Russia to immediately end the invasion of Ukraine, which he termed as an ‘armed aggression’. On March 6, he had rejected Moscow's claims of the invasion being a military operation.
"In Ukraine, rivers of blood and tears are flowing. This is not only a military operation but a war which is leading to death, destruction and misery," he had said.

At least 35 people were killed and 134 others were injured after the attack on an Ukrainian military base in Lviv, news agency Reuters reported. According to regional governor Maksym Kozytskyy, the Russian planes allegedly fired around 30 rockets at the facility, adding that some of them were intercepted before they hit the targets. The 360 square kilometres facility is one of Ukraine's biggest and the largest in the western part of the war-hit country.
