Israel-Hamas war highlights: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday said that Israeli Defence forces have entered the second phase of the war against Palestinian militant group Hamas. He vowed to "destroy the enemy above ground and below ground." Addressing a press conference, Netanyahu said that the war would be "long and hard" and reiterated Palestinian civilians to evacuate the northern Gaza Strip where Israel was focusing its attack.

The war between Israel and Palestine's Hamas militant group entered its 23rd day on Saturday. Over 9,000 people have died on both sides.
The Hamas-led Health Ministry said at least 8,000 Palestinians have been killed in the retaliatory airstrikes carried out by Israeli Defence Forces in Gaza since October 7.
More than 1,400 people, mostly civilians, were killed in Israel after Hamas attacked Israeli towns from the Gaza border on October 7. In addition to that, at least 222 people including foreigners were believed captured by Hamas during the incursion and taken into Gaza. Four of them have been released since then.
Here's what else has happened in the war between Israel and Hamas:
- With many buildings reduced to rubble, Gazans are short of essential supplies including food, water, fuel and medicines. Their plight got worse when phone and internet services were cut after heavy bombing by Tel Aviv.
- Israel has sent troops and tanks into Gaza on Friday night. The Israeli military said that it was focusing on infrastructure including the extensive tunnel network built by Hamas. It provided no details on the size of the deployment.
- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday sharply criticised the "unprecedented escalation" of bombardments on Gaza and called for an "immediate" ceasefire.
- Israel has recalled some of its diplomatic envoys to Turkey citing "grave statements" made by Ankara.
Kerala CM expresses shock over India's abstention on UN resolution
Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has voiced his astonishment and concern over the Indian government's decision to abstain from voting on a crucial resolution related to the Gaza conflict at the United Nations.
"It is really shocking that the Government of India has gone on to abstain from the resolution on Gaza in the UN supporting Israel and the US," said Kerala CM.
The UN General Assembly on Friday adopted a resolution that called for an "immediate, durable and sustained humanitarian truce" between Israel and Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.
UN call for humanity must be implemented: Yechury
Sitaram Yechury, addressing the gathering, delivered a fervent plea for action.
"The whole central committee has decided to protest today demanding an immediate end to this barbarity that is being done by Israel in the Gaza Strip against the Palestinians."

Israel-Hamas war: Hamas says it is ready for a 'prisoner exchange'
Hamas's armed wing has said that it was ready to release the hostages if Israel freed all the Palestinians held in its prisons, reported AFP.
"The price to pay for the large number of enemy hostages in our hands is to empty the (Israeli) prisons of all Palestinian prisoners," it said. "If the enemy wants to close this file of detainees in one go, we are ready for it. If it wants to do it step-by-step, we are ready for that too."
Israel-Hamas war: Speech at pro-Palestine event in Kerala triggers row
A political controversy has erupted in Kerala after a video showed Hamas leader Khaled Mashal virtually participating in a pro-Palestine rally.
The BJP is seeking action against the organizers and participants of the rally. Mashal's speech, in which he criticized Israel, has sparked sharp responses from the BJP.
The youth wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind organized the rally, which featured posters with anti-Hindutva and anti-Zionism slogans. The state chief of the youth wing argued that there was nothing illegal about Mashal's attendance at the event. Read on.
