King Charles strips brother Andrew of titles, forces him out of royal residence amid Epstein link outrage
The Royal Palace said Andrew will now lose the 'prince' title and be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, and will also have to move out of his royal residence.
King Charles III is stripping his Prince Andrew off his royal title, one that he has held since birth. With this big move, Andrew had to also vacate his royal residence at the Windsor estate and will be moving to a private accommodation.
In a statement, the Royal Palace said Andrew will now lose the 'prince' title and be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. The move comes amid outrage over Andrew's links to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In its statement, the Royal Palace also said that they stood by and empathised with victims of abuse. “Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse,” the statement read.
King's dramatic move despite brother giving up titles
Affairs concerning the Royal Family have always garnered attention, and the latest action by King Charles III against his own brother is being seen as one of the most dramatic moves in the family's modern history.
Notably, Andrew had recently given up on his Duke of York title recently, saying the accusations against him distracted from the work of the British royals. "I will therefore no longer use the title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me," Andrew said in a statement on October 17.
He also reportedly gave up his military affiliations, including roles as Admiral of the Sea Cadet Corps, Colonel-in-Chief of the Grenadier Guards, and Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Lossiemouth, among others.
Andrew-Epstein ‘links’
Virginia Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein’s sex abuse scandal’s most well-known survivors, who later died by suicide, had accused the offender and his associates of forcing her to have sex with Prince Andrew.
However, Andrew had denied the charge.
In a 2021 lawsuit against the then Duke of York, Giuffre alleged that Epstein trafficked her to Andrew, who allegedly sexually abused her when she was a teenager. Following Virginia’s death by suicide, another Epstein survivor stated that she had been struggling to cope with the stress of her settled sexual abuse case against Andrew.
