From his position at the Federal Housing Finance Agency, Pulte significantly influenced the Justice Department to take on some of its most remarkable cases against the President's personal adversaries. However, he has shown limited experience in national security matters.
He directed the investigation of New York Attorney General Letitia James, Representative Eric Swalwell, Senator Adam Schiff, and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis — all Democrats who have confronted Trump — to the department for inquiries into mortgage fraud.
He also mentioned Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook in relation to similar fraud allegations.
All five individuals have refuted Pulte’s claims, and only the investigation concerning James led to charges, which were subsequently dismissed by a federal judge.
However, these referrals sparked extensive accusations that the Trump administration was manipulating the justice system for retribution. The Government Accountability Office even initiated an inquiry into Pulte for potential abuse of power.
In his post on Truth Social, Trump stated that Pulte would continue in his current positions until a permanent Director of National Intelligence — a role that necessitates Senate confirmation — is appointed.
