Colombia next after Venezuela? Trump issues chilling warning for Petro after Maduro action
President Donald Trump issued a chilling warning to Colombia while giving answers about US military action in Venezuela, where Nicolas Maduro was captured.
President Donald Trump fielded questions in the wake of the US military action in Venezuela on January 3 that saw the capture of their president, Nicolas Maduro and his wife. Trump was on Air Force One when he issued a chilling warning to Colombian president Gustavo Petro amid the unprecedented military action against the south American neighbor.
Maduro and his wife were captured and flown back to the US, and the Venezuelan president has now been indicted, even as world leaders have reacted to Trump's actions. Following the Venezuela operation, the president already hinted that US might take over Greenland for ‘security concerns’, prompting a sharp response from Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

Now, Trump appears to be pointing to possible action in Colombia as well.
What Trump said about Colombia action
Trump slammed the Colombian president as a ‘sick man’ saying Petro liked ‘making cocaine and selling it to the United States’. Trump added “He’s not going to be doing it very long, let me tell you.”
When reporters pressed him about what he meant by that and whether this hinted at US operations in another neighboring south American nation, Trump replied “Sounds good to me.”
Notably, the Trump administration has alleged that Maduro led a ‘narco-terrorism’ conspiracy that targeted the US. The capture of Maduro came after months of military buildup around Venezuela, and was labelled as a war on drugs on part of the US. However, Trump has now also pointed to Venezuela's oil reserves and how the US will benefit from it.
Elsewhere, when speaking to the press, Trump hinted that a ‘second strike’ on Venezuela was on the cards if the neighboring country didn't ‘behave’. He again hinted that the US was ‘in charge’ in Venezuela, and also issued a stern warning to Iran saying “if (Iran) starts killing people like they have in the past, I think they're gonna get hit very hard by the United States.”
