A partial building collapse at a Family Dollar store in Kansas City on Sunday afternoon left one person dead and three others critically injured.
What we know so far
According to KSHB, the incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. in the 3700 block of Broadway Boulevard. Kansas City police and fire crews responded to reports that the front façade of the building had suddenly collapsed.
KCFD Battalion Chief Mike Hopkins confirmed that a 68-year-old man was killed in the incident. A 50-year-old woman was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries, and her condition was later upgraded to critical.
“Her condition has been updated to critical due to injuries sustained,” Hopkins said in an update shortly before 5 p.m.
Two other individuals were treated at the scene but declined to be transported for further medical care.

Local streets and sidewalks surrounding the store remain closed as investigators examine the structural failure and oversee cleanup operations.
