Watch: Power bank explodes in man’s bag on a bus in China
The man escaped unhurt.
Commuters in south-east China’s Guangzhou were in for a scare when a passenger’s power bank exploded in his backpack in a bus last Wednesday turning his bag into a fireball.
CCTV footage shows the man seated with his backpack on his lap, talking to the passenger next to him. Suddenly there’s an explosion and a flash of light. The man can be seen frantically trying to get rid of the bag, and throwing it on the floor. The fire extinguished itself within seconds.
According to the local media, he escaped unhurt.
Passengers can be seen fanning away the smoke. Soon after, the surprised man gets up, picks up his bag and walks out of the frame. According to Shanghaiist, the man reportedly threw the bag out of the bus - where it continued to shoot sparks - and says a power bank inside the man’s backpack exploded, causing the small fire.
Last week, a phone exploded in a man’s shirt pocket at a restaurant in Mumbai’s Bhandup. He was admitted to hospital with minor injuries as a result of the explosion.
