Kandahar police chief Mutillah Khan blamed the bombing in the province's Shah Wali Kot district on the "enemies of Afghanistan" -- a phrase most Afghan officials use to refer to Taliban militants.

"A roadside bomb struck a police vehicle. There were 10 policemen in the car who were all killed," Khan told AFP.
