5.7 quake hits eastern Turkey, buildings collapsed
A magnitude 5.7 earthquake hit 16 km (9 miles) south of the eastern Turkish city of Van on Wednesday, the US Geological Survey reported, and Turkish state television said a hotel and an office building had collapsed.

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake hit 16 km (9 miles) south of the eastern Turkish city of Van on Wednesday, the US Geological Survey reported, and Turkish state television said a hotel and an office building had collapsed.
The earthquake struck at 1923 GMT or 2123 local time at a depth of 4.8 km, it said. State television channel TRT Haber showed live images of at least two collapsed buildings and rescue workers searching thropugh the rubble.
Panicked people could be seen running through the streets and ambulances rushed through the town with their sirens wailing.
