6.2 Richter quake hits Japan

The magnitude was determined by the Hong Kong Observatory at 37.4 degrees north latitude and 141.6 degrees east longitude.

An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale occurred near the east coast of Hongshu, Japan, at 1358 GMT on Monday, the Hong Kong Observatory said.

The magnitude was initially determined by the Hong Kong Observatory at 37.4 degrees north latitude and 141.6 degrees east longitude, about 120 km south-southeast of Sendai, Japan.

There was no immediate report of casualties.
