A doctor at Kandahar's main hospital says the hospital has received eight dead bodies and 13 people wounded in the blast.

A provincial council member, Haji Agha Lalai, says five vehicles filled with explosives detonated together, causing a huge blast that rocked Afghanistan's largest southern city tonight.

Lalai says the blast targeted a Japanese construction company that mostly hires Pakistani engineers.
Taliban militants have carried out several complex attacks in Kandahar the last several year.
