Officers say the front door of the embassy in the Finnish capital was burned in the attack and the fire spread indoors before it was extinguished by fire fighters. An embassy worker was treated for smoke inhalation.

The early morning attack came hours after a peaceful anti-Turkey protest late on Monday outside the embassy by a few dozen Kurdish demonstrators.

Police spokesman Jussi Huhtela says four men have been detained on suspicion of the attack. Huhtela says the attack could have been politically motivated and that some of the men had a Turkish-Kurdish background.
