Lakhvir Singh, 45, murdered Lakhvinder “Lucky” Cheema, 39, because she could not bear the prospect of him marrying another woman, the trial at the Old Bailey in London was told.

Cheema had been due to wed fiancee Gurjeet Choongh, 21, on February 14 -- Valentine’s Day -- last year, but barely three weeks before the wedding the couple fell ill after eating curry at their home in Feltham, west London.

The poison was identified as Indian aconite, known as the Queen of Poisons.

Singh was found guilty of murdering Cheema and causing grievous bodily harm to Choongh.
