France offers free education scheme in Puducherry

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has promised to implement free education scheme at Lycee Francaise in Puducherry from September this year.

Mr Vajoumouny Shankar and Mr Ramachandran Tirou, elected to the French Lower House from Puducherry as representatives of French people residing in the Union Territory, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, on Monday said French President Nicolas Sarkozy has promised to implement free education scheme at Lycee Francaise in Puducherry from September this year.

Addressing a press conference in Puducherry on the completion of their one year in office, the duo said it was an election promise to give free education and those will study in the final three years in Lycee Francaise could avail the benefit. Eleventh and Twelfth classes would be started at Lycee Francaise this year in which Indian nationals could also study, they added.

The two elected on behalf of the UMP party said, they were doing their best to serve the French people in Puducherry. The cases of grabbing the property of French citizens had come down here.
