Girls’ schools shut by Taliban

Taliban militants have banned female education in northwest Pakistan valley of Swat, depriving over 40,000 girls of schooling, officials said.

Last month, the Taliban warned parents that female education was “unIslamic”.

“Nobody will be allowed to challenge the writ of the government,” a statement by the prime minister’s office quoted PM Yousaf Raza Gilani as saying on Friday.
