Hands off! A Belgian idea to dodge swine flu

To avoid swine flu, avoid shaking hands. So says the main employers’ group in Belgium’s affluent Dutch-speaking Flanders region.

“If your staff comes into contact with many people, they can limit the danger of infection by not shaking hands,” UNIZO says on its Internet site, where it has posted a list of tips on how to deal with the A(H1N1) virus.

“The message is: wash your hands regularly with soap,” it adds.

“If it can help, let’s do it,” explained Karel Van Eetvelt, the group’s chief executive, on French-language RTBF television. “I think other ways can be found to greet people.”
