Hurricane Earl downgraded to tropical storm

Hurricane Earl weakened further today and was downgraded to a tropical storm, US government forecasters said. At 0300 GMT, Earl displayed maximum sustained winds of 70 miles (110 kilometers an hour as it moved northeast past Cape Cod, Massachusetts, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said.

Hurricane Earl weakened further late Friday and was downgraded to a tropical storm, US government forecasters said.

At 0300 GMT, Earl displayed maximum sustained winds of 70 miles (110 kilometers an hour as it moved northeast past Cape Cod, Massachusetts, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said.



"Additional weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours," the center added.
